Steering Loose, FJ-60

The easy first thing to do is adjust your steering gear box. If you look straight down through the engine compartment to the gear box, you'll see a large nut tightened over a bolt with a slotted end. I don't remember the nut size (17mm?), but you'll need a wrench and a flathead screwdriver. Loosen the nut and tighten the slotted bolt until there is no play, then back it off a little bit. Hold the bolt in that position and tighten the nut. If you were able to tighten the bolt a fair amount, you should now feel less play in the steering.

Other things to check that can affect steering:

tie rod ends

spring/sway bar bushings

wheel & knuckle bearings

shocks

steering shaft u-joints
