Towing FJ-40 with Tow Bar, Q/A

Question: Anybody out there ever tow an FJ40 with an FJ40? I'm looking at an 8 hour drive and I'm trying to determine whether this is a good idea or not. I was planning on using a tow bar and a ball hitch/pintle hook combination. I've towed an FJ40 using a 97 S-10 Blazer for a short distance and the Blazer had some transmission problems shortly afterwards. I don't want to do the same thing to my cruiser so I'd appreciate any input.

Answer: It's OK, Go Slow & Allow more Stopping Distance (short wheel base has a tendency to jack knife)... Also, put a ball on vehicle being towed to swap vehicles if front FJ-40 breaks down.

Place tow vehicle transmission in neutral as well as transfer case... unlock hubs...

Make WIDE TURNS at slow speeds so front wheels of tow vehicle stay straight... Tow vehicle wheels should always track straight on the road... start slow and get a feal for your set up...

Also, tow vehicle will rut bad in road groves if tires are non-radial...

Be careful not to pick up too much speed on the downhill... may cause tow vehicle to whip...

Disclaimer...This has always worked for me, but your driving habits, judgement and set up maybe different...

good luck...
